Letter #331
Cornelis DE SCHEPPER to Ioannes DANTISCUSMontserrat, 1527-04-21
English register:
The company of Gattinara is staying at Montserrat Abbey [for Easter]. De Schepper has seen the memorial left there by Dantiscus. He has said his confession. After Easter they will leave for Barcelona. The Chancellor’s [Mercurino Gattinara's] further plans are uncertain as yet. Bad weather prevents them from setting sail.
De Schepper has passed some confidential information to Dantiscus in the ciphered letter sent from Fraga [letter No. 6]. This letter was accidentally sent to Barcelona, but De Schepper will forward it from there. He asks Dantiscus to keep him informed.
A message has reached the Chancellor that his possessions in Italy have been destroyed by Spanish troops. He has received a letter from Savoy, but Easter Day prevented De Schepper from discussing its contents with him. De Schepper promises to inform Dantiscus if there is anything important in it. He asks to be recommended and sends greetings to mutual friends.
