UUB, H. 154, f. 185r

Se commendat.

Principibus viris multos passim assentari admodum vulgare est, Antistes Reverendissime, quod ut quisquam apud te, qui in magnorum regum aulis tam diu versatus, tam longo rerum usu es edoctus, feliciter temptare possit, vix crediderim. Quamquam igitur causae aliquot non contemnendae me invitarent, ut litteras aliquando darem ad Reverendissimam Dominationem Tuam, cum tamen viderem vix a specie assentationis abesse posse quicquid scriberem, hactenus tacendum duxi. Sive enim gratias agere tibi parassem pro illa clementia, qua me abhinc triennio Cracow (Kraków, Cracovia), city in southern Poland, Małopolska, on the Vistula river, from 1038 capital of the Kingdom of PolandCracoviaeCracow (Kraków, Cracovia), city in southern Poland, Małopolska, on the Vistula river, from 1038 capital of the Kingdom of Poland tuae mensae adhibere atque adeo hoc quasi symbolo inter tuos recipere dignabaris, sive plenam erga subditos beneficientiam prioris tui principatus tum administrationem tum abdicationem gratulari tibi voluissem, aut etiam istius nuper amplioris principatus inaugurationem tibi faustam et felicem pro more clientum precari statuissem, periculum erat, ne in aliquam adulationis suspicionem inciderem, cum nihil horum sine tuis laudibus a me fieri potuisset.

Nunc vero diversi generis occasio mihi oblata est, quae ut scribendi ansam dedit, ita ad scribendum quoque me animavit. Si quidem vidi his diebus duo epithaphia felici memoriae Johann Reyneck (†1535), the second husband of Dantiscus' sister Anna; doctor of both canon and civil law; councillor to Duke Albrecht von Hohenzollern (BORAWSKA 1984, p. 179-180, 203; GÜNTHER 1907, p. 365)clarissimi doctoris ReyneciiJohann Reyneck (†1535), the second husband of Dantiscus' sister Anna; doctor of both canon and civil law; councillor to Duke Albrecht von Hohenzollern (BORAWSKA 1984, p. 179-180, 203; GÜNTHER 1907, p. 365) consecrata. Quorum prius meum esse comperi, id enim officii amico recens defuncto persolvendam putavi, cf. Epitaphium Ioannis Reinecii Johann REYNECK before 1536-02-24, CIDTC IDP 95posteriuscf. Epitaphium Ioannis Reinecii Johann REYNECK before 1536-02-24, CIDTC IDP 95 vero, nisi vanus augur sum, conicio Reverendissimae Tuae Dominationis opus esse.

Vae mihi, pro factis si Jesus of Nazareth (Jesus Christ), in Christianity the Messiah foretold in the Old TestamentChristusJesus of Nazareth (Jesus Christ), in Christianity the Messiah foretold in the Old Testament debita pendat

Praemia, lex mors est: ancora sacra fides;

Tam pia nullius, fateor, fuit aut erit umquam

Iudicium ut possit vita subire Dei.

Tota salus venia Patris constat miserentis,

Fortassis inter laeta nuptialis convivii studia cf. [Reply to poem of Poliander] 1538-11-17 — 1538-11-23, CIDTC IDP 168, poem lostrescriberecf. [Reply to poem of Poliander] 1538-11-17 — 1538-11-23, CIDTC IDP 168, poem lost vel non vacabit, vel non libebit; hic erit mihi consul noster Belerus litterarum vice, si quid ei mandandum duxerit Dominatio Tua Reverendissima. Reverendissimae D(ominationi) or D(ominationis)D(ominationi)D(ominationi) or D(ominationis) Tuae deditissimus Ioannes Poliander (Johann Gramann, Johann Graumann) (*1487 – †1541), doctor of theology, Protestant preacher, and hymn-writer. In 1519 during the dispute between Martin Luther and Eck, he served on the Catholic side, but was impressed by Luther’s argumentation. In 1525 he accepted an invitation from Duke Albrecht von Hohenzollern to Königsberg, where he organised the new Protestant schools in Prussia. In 1531 he took part in the Colloquy of Rastenburg (HASE).
