Dantiscus expresses his gratitude for the kind treatment of the case of the widow [Katarina Schewecken] of Georg Schewecke. Regarding the current state of the proceedings and the actions taken by the heirs, the addressee will learn from the letter to the bishop of Cracow [Samuel Maciejowski].
The letter from the king [Sigismund I] concerning appeals lodged before a notary and witnesses has not yet been delivered to the councillors of Royal Prussia by Adrianus Fridewalt. Dantiscus asks that efforts should be made to ensure that such measures are not permitted in the future if they lead to a violation of the jurisdiction of the ordinary courts. Although this procedure relieves those administering justice, at the same time it causes significant financial burdens for the parties involved. Despite an appeal being lodged with the king, the cases are nonetheless referred back to the councillors for examination, meaning that double costs need to be incurred. Had this practice not infringed upon the existing Prussian regulations, Dantiscus would not oppose its application.
Dantiscus confirms that, thanks to the addressee’s efforts, he has received back the materials concerning the mission to the emperor [Charles V Habsburg], which he had previously sent to the bishop of Cracow. He asks for information about the mission of the envoys [Stanisław Łaski and Mikołaj Radziwiłł “the Black”] representing the elder king [Sigismund I] and the younger king [Sigismund Augustus] at the Imperial Diet, should any news arrive from them. Similarly, he asks for information on the results to date of the mission of the estates of Royal Prussia [Tiedemann Giese, Johann von Baysen (Jan Bażyński), Johann von Werden, Achatius von Zehmen (Achacy Cema), Fabian von Zehmen (Cema)] at the royal court, as well as the anticipated outcomes of this mission.
Dantiscus has no news to convey. He expresses his gratitude for the reports regarding the mission of the envoy [Jean de Monluc] of the king of France [Henry II Valois]; he asks for an account of the upcoming response, as well as any news from the court.
