Letter #1824

Ioannes DANTISCUS to Tiedemann GIESE
Heilsberg (Lidzbark Warmiński), 1537-12-22

English register: Dantiscus is replying to two letters from Giese. He received them 4 days before, on the day of his arrival in Lidzbark, from the cantor (Ioannes Tymmermann), because the provost (Paweł Płotowski) had left earlier. Dantiscus accepts Giese’s recommendation of Gaspar Holthusen. He also informs Giese that Bernard (von Höfen) returned from Cracow on December 21, having concluded all the matters there. Prior to Bernard’s departure from Cracow, Georg Hegel’s messenger on horseback, paid by Dantiscus, took the drafts for the sum deposited in cash in Toruń to Rome. Dantiscus expects that in early February another messenger will bring the bullae and all the documents from Rome and it will not involve any additional costs. Dantiscus encloses letters from which Giese will learn all the news from the royal court. The cantor (Ioannes Tymmermann) will tell him about all other matters. Dantiscus is impatiently awaiting Giese’s arrival in Lidzbark. He apologizes for the briefness of his letter – he is busy with organizational matters related to his move.

Reverendissimae Dominationis Vestrae integerrimus frater Ioannes episcopus Culmensis, postulatus Varmiensis manu mea scripsi.
