Letter #1792
Ioannes DANTISCUS to Fabian WOJANOWSKI (DAMERAU)Löbau (Lubawa), 1537-11-16
English register: Dantiscus informs Wojanowski that, following Maurycy Ferber’s death, he has been transferred to the Warmia bishopric and will go to his new diocese in a few days. He writes about the problems related to his promised resignation from the Warmia canonry in favor of Wojanowski. He describes the pressure from the queen, who wanted Dantiscus to resign in favor of Rafał Konopacki, and from the king, who – at the request of Grand Chancellor Chojeński – wants a resignation in favor of Stanisław Hozjusz. Dantiscus has managed to get the queen to accept Wojanowski; as for Chojeński – he recently sent his brother Bernard to him, to deal with this matter among other things. He also asked Bernard to obtain permission from the Włocławek bishop (Jan Karnkowski) for Wojanowski to be ordained as an acolyte, without which it is not possible to become a canon. Whichever way matters go, Dantiscus promises to spare no effort in promoting the goal of Wojanowski becoming a Warmia canon as soon as possible. Dantiscus asks Wojanowski to write to him more often – the last letter he received from him was sent from Genoa in July. Dantiscus informs Wojanowski of the marriage between Diego Gracián (de Alderete) and Juana (Dantiscus’ daughter). He offers the opinion that the matter should be the subject of Wojanowski’s paternal(!?) concern. He asks him for news on this and other Spanish affairs.
