Letter #3922
Ioannes DANTISCUS to [Ermland (Warmia)] chapterHeilsberg (Lidzbark), 1545-10-29
English register:
The previous day, the envoy dispatched by the chapter to the royal court returned to Dantiscus. He brought letters [from Stanisław Hozjusz (Hosius)] and from the king [Sigismund I]. From the copies enclosed with the present letter, the addressees will learn of the outcome of the matter [the dispute between the Ermland (Warmia) chapter and the voivode of Marienburg (Malbork), Georg von Baysen (Jerzy Bażyński), concerning the location where the chapter’s subjects from the estates of Tolkemit (Tolkmicko) were to appear for a military muster]. The outcome is favourable to himself and the chapter.
According to letters reaching Dantiscus, it appears that the efforts of the adversary [Alexander Sculteti] concerning the letter of safe conduct have come to nothing, and that his case in Rome has been referred once again to other judges. Dantiscus asks the chapter to pass on any news it may receive in this matter.
