Letter #579

Cornelis DE SCHEPPER to Ioannes DANTISCUS
Maastricht, 1531-01-17

English register:

When De Schepper arrived in Maastricht, the Emperor [Charles V] had already left for Liège, where he will not be staying more than one day. Hence most members of his entourage have already moved on. The English ambassador [John Hackett] has travelled directly to Brussels. He claims that he was not invited to Liège and that the French ambassador [Charles du Solier], (who recommends himself to Dantiscus,) is the only one explicitly invited.

De Schepper will travel straight home [Brugge] on horseback, stay there for two days, and then return to Brussels. He recommends the inn where he is staying to Dantiscus, and gives him some advice on the roads from Maastricht to Brussels.
