Letter #3894

[Ioannes DANTISCUS] to [Paweł PŁOTOWSKI?]
Heilsberg (Lidzbark Warmiński), 1542-04-21

English register:

Dantiscus has learned from the addressee’s letter that the recently absolved canon, Alexander Sculteti, persists in his error. For this reason he orders the addressee to summon Sculteti in his name and command him to remove the concubine from his household under threat of the penalty prescribed by canon law.

In the postscript, Dantiscus informs the addressee that he has ordered the Chapter of Ermland not to allow Sculteti’s concubine to remain within his domain. He also inquires whether the addressee has received his letter dated 6 April, noting that he has received the addressee’s letter dated 17 April.

Some influential figures, who attempted to exert pressure on both him and the addressee, are persecuting Hans Holsten. He is ashamed of the ineffective support he provided for him before the [Gdańsk] Town Council. Similarly, the Vice-Chancellor, [Samuel Maciejowski], will also come to feel ashamed.

Dantiscus has accepted into his service a Swede who was recommended by the addressee.
