Letter #2193

Ioannes DANTISCUS to Tiedemann GIESE
Heilsberg (Lidzbark Warmiński), 1539-07-16

English register:

Dantiscus’ messenger [Mauritius] has returned from the court, bringing correspondence and “Melanchthon’s letter to the Venetian Senate”, and other texts. Giese will learn of the events and news from the enclosed letters.

Dantiscus does not feel responsible for the belated dispatch of the [Prussian councillors’] memo to the King [Sigismund I Jagiellon] regarding filling the office [of Castellan of Elbing (Elbląg)]. He thinks everyone could have proceeded individually on the matter.

He awaits Giese’s precise instructions on how he should support his cause.

He sends Giese the King’s letter to the Council of Royal Prussia with a request that he pass it on.
