Letter #14
Mercurino Arborio di GATTINARA to Ioannes DANTISCUS[Valladolid], [1524-10-12 — 1524-11-01]
English register:
Gattinara explains his delay in his reply to Dantiscus’ letter by the need of send a messenger to the emperor. He promises to present the matter of the safe passage (salvus conductus) to the emperor together with Dantiscus’ other issues, but asks that the Polish envoy formulate them as a memorandum, to which he will receive a reply. He assures him that the legal will of the duchess [Isabella of Aragon] has not been and will not be confirmed in future.
Honor does not allow Gattinara to ask the emperor openly whether he can accept a gift of furs from Dantiscus. The chancellor suggests that Dantiscus ask the emperor for a permission through Jean Lalemand or Count [Hendrik] van Nassau.

Magnifico Domino Ioanni Dantisco, serenissimi Poloniae regis ad caesaream maiestatem oratori mihi plurimum honorando
Magnifice Domine.
Valeat interim Magnificentia Vestra, cui me commendo.
Ad mandata Magnificentiae Vestrae deditus Mercurinus Gattinara
